The Touareg 2 is designed to push a portion of the road bed material under the temporarily locked wheels. A type of chock is formed as road debris builds. This enhances the braking function and shortens the braking distance without negative effects on steerability.

The Touareg 2’s optional 4-link, 4-corner adjustable air suspension has 6 adjustable ride heights and Continuous Damping Control, allowing the driver to adjust the damping on 3 different levels. So, lift it up when the water is deep and terrain is rough or bring it down and tighten it up when you’re on the highway.

VW uses steel reinforcements in the doors which are designed to absorb and redirect impact energy upon a side impact - basically creating a steel cage to protect passengers. Sounds good on paper. Even better on impact.

ABS stands for the Anti-lock Brake System. It’s an electronically regulated hydraulic braking system which helps prevent the vehicle from sliding under hard braking by preventing wheel lock-up. ABS helps safe happen.

Anti-Slip Regulation helps prevent wheel slippage at all speeds and denies engine power in situations when wheel slip is detected. So, balance and equal traction are never compromised.**

The Center-Locking Differential allows the driver to actuate the center differential manually, giving the same amount of power to all 4 wheels at the same time, helping provide stability with continuous electronic control from the differential itself.

The Touareg 2 comes standard with dual-zone climate control, which makes it possible to control 2 different cabin temperatures, one for the driver and one for the passengers. There is also an optional 4-zone climate control, which makes it possible to have 4 different climates within the cabin. Working in conjunction with our Anti-lock Braking System, EBD senses exactly how your VW is braking, then applies just the right amount of braking power to each individual wheel as needed. For example, brake hard and the weight shifts to the front of your car; EBD senses that and applies more braking up front. So if you’re ever forced to slam on the brakes there’s a better chance you’ll stay in a straight line. And in your lane.

The Electronic Parking Assistance uses ultrasonic sound waves and sensors in the rear and front bumpers which let you know when you’re getting close to an object.

Your VW is constantly monitoring your safety. Take the safety belts for example. To make sure there’s always the appropriate tension on your safety belt, it’s continually adjusting with your movements, keeping the belt snug against your body. One more way we prove we want to hold on to you as long as we can.

Sometimes when you downshift too hard, the sudden increase in RPMs can cause skidding. Not with the intelligence of VW at the wheel. This system monitors sudden engine compression and automatically applies the brake to prevent skidding. Ever so subtly, of course.

The side view mirrors have the blinkers built right into them. This helps vehicles to the left or right of you know when you’re turning or changing lanes much more easily. And as an added bonus, it’s easier to spot when you’ve left your blinker on.

Your Touareg 2 can plow through 22.8** inches of water without any leakage into the vehicle. Good to know during monsoon season.

Airbags** get all the headlines. And as well these side airbags should. They’re activated in certain types of vehicle collisions when sensors trigger their deployment in just milliseconds. Unlike a lot of manufacturers, these deploy to fill the area between the passenger and the door from the seat bolster. If you ever need them you’ll be glad they do.

As an integral part of our Crash Response System, your VW is designed to automatically shut off the fuel pump whenever an airbag** deploys. Helping keep the fuel in the tank where it should be.

Ever notice that you rarely see a rusted-out VW on the road? That’s because all the body panels on a Volkswagen are built with fully galvanized steel. Which helps prevent corrosion perforation or whatever else may be caused by unknown city sludge.

Hill Climb Assist allows you to come to a full and complete stop without rolling backward while driving up a steep hill.

Hill Descent Assist uses your ABS system to control your descent speed down a steep hill. So, you really may never even have to put your foot on the gas or the brake. Your Touareg 2 can handle it all on its own.

It’s all about better visibility. This helps makes sure your side view mirrors don’t fog up in the worst weather. A nicety that borders on necessity.

What good are washer nozzles if they are frozen closed? Your washer nozzles on your VW can heat up to keep ice from forming over them.

Program your garage door to open and close, turn your front porch lights on and off or even control your home security system.

Sometimes, drivers will apply the brake quickly, but without enough pressure to activate the ABS system. VW’s HBA recognizes how quickly the brakes were pressed, and automatically kicks in maximum ABS effectiveness to help give you maximum deceleration.

Once a certain severity of crash is detected and airbags** have deployed, the Intelligent Crash Response System automatically unlocks all doors, disconnects the battery terminal from the alternator cable, shuts off the fuel supply and turns on the warning hazards and interior lights. It’s called "Intelligent" for a reason.

Part of the theft deterrent system, this system will allow the vehicle to start only if a key with the appropriate digital coding is inserted into the ignition. If anything without that coding is inserted into the ignition, the immobilizer disables the ignition and your VW cannot be started.

Most cars have door levers, not handles. The VW door handle lets you wrap your hand around it, not just your fingertips. It’s easier on your hands, and allows you to exert more force if you are ever in an emergency situation. Plus, we’ve specifically placed the door handle cables in places where they are less likely to be damaged if an accident occurs.

Windshield wipers? A safety feature? Absolutely. In a VW, when it’s not raining hard enough to turn the wipers on continually, our intermittent feature wipes away rain just often enough so you can see the road clearly.

Because of a special transmitter built into the key fob, all you have to do is walk up to your Touareg 2 and the doors will unlock for you automatically. Once you’re inside, all you have to do is step on the brake and press the start button. And then, vroom.

Sometimes you want to go across the mountain, not just up or down it. That’s fine, your Touareg 2 can cruise at a 35-degree angle without slipping and sliding.

The Multi-Function Indicator is a trip computer that monitors your trip time, trip length, average trip speed, average trip fuel consumption, current fuel consumption and distance to empty. It also lets you adjust settings for vehicle unlocking, exterior mirror synchronization, language, measurement units, exterior headlights coming home and leaving home, tire pressure monitoring system, speed warning, time setting and interior lighting. Phew. All that from just a few clicks on the steering wheel.

They aren’t just side view mirrors anymore. They’re fully powered and fold in if you need a little extra room. Plus, they’re heated and have a reverse tilt feature, which angles the mirrors down toward the curb when you’re parking. They also have a floodlight feature which lights up when you lock or unlock the doors, so you don’t step in some goop hiding in the shadows.

The multi-function steering wheel can be adjusted up and down and in and out to the perfect position for you. You’ve even got control of the audio system, cruise control and the multi-function onboard computer right at your fingertips. So, you can keep your hands on the wheel. A good thing while driving.

This optional DVD-based system covers all of the United States and Canada. And it can tell you where you are at anytime. But what if you travel outside of the mapped area? Well, we thought of that too. The Touareg 2 will track any route you’ve taken, whether you’re on the satellite or not, and remember it so you can always find your way home. It’s called breadcrumb technology. Get it?

VW calls them optimized head restraints because after lots of testing, we positioned the head restraint at an optimum position to help reduce the chance of whiplash-type injuries during a rear collision. We use our heads when we’re protecting them.

Talk about smart - your VW can detect the size of both you and your passenger, then deploy the airbags** more effectively based on the severity of impact if you have an accident.

Every VW is equipped with power windows. It’s not because we think you’re lazy, it’s because we think you deserve it. And they all have pinch protection, which helps reduce the risk of injury to a set of unsuspecting fingers when the windows are closing.

It tilts. It slides. It’s got pinch protection. And it’s tinted so you don’t get toasted when the sun comes out to play.

The power liftgate can be opened with the key fob by simply pressing the trunk button. You can adjust how high it opens up and closing it is a cinch too. Just press the power close button that’s on the hatch.

With rain-sensing wipers, you don’t have to worry about controlling the speed of the wipers in the rain, they’ll take care of it for you. A small sensor in the windshield detects how much water is obstructing your vision. And, since Mother Nature can change her mind quickly, these wipers adjust their speed automatically.

Improving a driver’s control out on the road has a great deal to do with being able to see what’s in front of you. Or, behind, in this case. Every VW we make offers rear window defogging. While some look at it as a lovely amenity, we view it as a crucial part of offering better visibility and better safety.

See what’s behind you in the woods with this built in rearview camera. Not only do you see video while in reverse, but graphic lines help indicate the Touareg 2’s backing path.

The Touareg 2 is field tested in the hottest and coldest conditions. The REST button was born from the latter. The residual heat from the engine gets rerouted through the dash, keeping the interior cabin warm approximately 45 minutes after you turn the engine off. Your toes will thank you.

With the Rear-Locking Differential, you can transfer 100% of your Touareg 2’s power to the rear wheels. This helps guarantee power distribution and traction on soft ground or slopes. It will even transfer all of the power to one rear wheel to ensure the necessary propulsion when needed.

Load limiters sense how much force the safety belt is exerting on the occupant after the pretensioners have activated, and will let a little bit of safety belt line out if they detect too much force on the passenger to help reduce the potential for injuries. We’re about comfort and safety.

The front and rear seat safety belt pretensioner is a pyrotechnic or gas operated device, which are triggered during moderate or severe impact to reduce excess slack between passengers and their safety belts. In layman’s terms they tighten up if a crash happens to help keep you even safer.

VWs want you to know everyone is safe. That’s why if any passenger isn’t wearing his or her safety belt, your VW gives you a gentle heads up.

Thanks to our unibody construction, inside every VW a specially reinforced safety cage is designed to help keep you safe, while the outside "crumples" around you. This is one instance you won’t mind feeling caged in.

VW puts sensors in the doors, in side impact situations this is where the pressure is first detected. Sounds obvious, but not everyone does. This way, the sensors detect precisely when and where outside force is occurring, and deploy the airbags** accordingly; instead of when the whole car is sensing a "crumple." Think about it - in a crash, milliseconds can make all the difference.

No need to slam the rear hatch of your Touareg 2 shut. Just make sure it goes all the way down - small motors will take over from there and make sure that it’s secure.

Stable is good. Placed on the front and rear suspension, these bars minimize your VW’s tilt in a sharp turn - again, giving you better control of your vehicle, letting you stop quicker.

The Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) is improved for ’08. Every 30 seconds, the tire pressure monitoring system checks if any tire is losing air. And through a warning indicator on the instrument panel, you’ll be the first to know if a tire is low on air. Well, second to know. Just after the Tire Pressure Monitoring System.

You can tow up to 7,716 lbs. of whatever you need to with your Touareg 2. Hopefully it has something to do with a big fish you caught.

Yet another upgraded safety feature VW chooses to offer standard that others don’t even offer. When you push the brake pedal, pads squeeze both sides of the disc to slow and stop the wheel. Our vented brake rotors cool better so they work better, too. To date, it’s the most effective ABS platform available. When it comes to safety we don’t mind bragging.
